A comedian has launched a GoFundMe for new front teeth after being allegedly assaulted in a pub in Edinburgh.

Michael Porter said he stepped in to protect a pregnant woman from an “escalating situation” in his local pub on Friday, March 14.

He was allegedly assaulted and lost his two front teeth.

The comedian, who is from Donegal, has said he has been left “physically and emotionally shaken” from the incident, saying his “smile is his business” on stage.

He has launched a GoFundMe after being told the costs for dental treatment will be £3,800.

“As a result of the attack, I lost my front teeth and have been left physically and emotionally shaken. I perform at my comedy club seven days a week and my smile is my business,” he said.

“I never imagined I would be in a position where I have to ask for help, but the costs for dental treatment to repair my teeth are overwhelming I got bridge work done in Northern Ireland under the NHS but now living in Scotland I’m told this isn’t covered here and the quote I got was £3,800.

“I’m very proud and don’t like handouts so anyone that can help me I’ll give you free tickets to any of my shows, I’ll even buy you a beer as a thank you.”

Mr Porter has said he has been left with a speech impediment following the incident, and added his confidence has been affected.

“I’m sure in time I’ll get some sort of compensation but for now I’m left having to perform with damaged teeth,” he added.

“I still got on stage 20 minutes after the assault.

“The damage has not only affected my ability to eat but my confidence and I have a speech impediment now which is difficult being a comedian.

“I’m reaching out to the community to ask for any support you can offer in helping me cover the expenses of dental surgery and recovery. Any contribution, big or small, would make an immense difference in my life and help me move forward from this event.

“Thank you for your kindness, support, and generosity. It means the world to me please share this around so that I can get back to making you laugh.”
