A pedestrian is in hospital after being hit by a bus in Edinburgh city centre.

Emergency services attended the crash which closed West Maitland Street between Torphichen Place and Haymarket station after 1.45pm on Saturday.

Drivers were urged to avoid the area where possible, as Edinburgh Trams also advised passengers of a change to services due to the incident.

A 34-year-old pedestrian was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh Hospital for treatment.

A Police Scotland statement read: “West Maitland Street, Edinburgh has re-opened following a crash reported around 1.45pm on Saturday, December 14, 2024.

“The crash involved a bus and a male pedestrian and the 34-year-old man was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh Hospital for treatment.

“Enquiries are ongoing.”
