The Edinburgh Castle one o’clock gun did not fire on Tuesday due to a medical emergency.
The firing of the gun dates back to 1861, when it allowed ships in the Firth of Forth to set their clocks.
It has since become a major tourist attraction, firing every day except on Sundays, Good Friday and Christmas Day.
However, the gun did not fire on Tuesday after a member of the public fell ill in the safety cordon.
The individual received prompt first aid from medics at the scene.
An Army spokesperson said: “Owing to a member of the public taking ill within the safety cordon area, the one o’clock gun did not fire on Tuesday, August 19.
“The safety of both the public and our personnel will always be our first priority.”
