An Edinburgh carer has been issued a warning after turning up to work having driven whilst under the influence of alcohol.

Lawrence Meki was a care worker at Lothian Trading Services Ltd when on January 18, 2024 he were found to have committed the offences.

A ruling by the Scottish Social Services Council stated: “Social service workers must meet relevant standards of practice and work in a lawful, safe and effective way.

“You drove to work and reported for duty while under the influence of alcohol. Your actions represented a lack of dependability, a disregard for the law and for the duty of care owed.

“Your actions had the potential to place vulnerable supported people, yourself and members of the public at risk of harm.”

The warning and conditions are in place for 18 months and require Meki to inform any new employers of the incident.

He must also provide a reflective account to the Scottish Social Services Council two months after the hearing.

The restrictions come into force from October 22, 2024.

Lothian Trading Services Ltd declined to comment.
