An Edinburgh Airport bound flight from the USA was met by emergency services upon its landing due to “low tyre pressure”.

The Virgin Atlantic flight from Orlando to the Scottish capital was met by a number of ambulance and fire crews on Wednesday morning.

The airline confirmed that the aircraft requested engineers upon landing after suffering from low nose gear tyre pressure upon take-off from Florida.

It was confirmed that the flight touched safely down on the tarmac at 11.20am – 20 minutes later than scheduled.

An Edinburgh Airport spokesperson said: “Our teams were made aware of an issue with the inbound Virgin Atlantic flight and as a precaution stood up response procedures as is standard practice.

“The flight has landed and was met by emergency response vehicles. It has since exited the runway and operations have resumed.”

A Virgin Atlantic spokesperson said: “As a precautionary measure we have requested engineers meet our flight the VS226 travelling from Orlando to Edinburgh upon landing due to low nose gear tyre pressure.

“The safety of our customers and crew is always our top priority and the aircraft had landed as normal.”
