Dunfermline skatepark reopens after £300,000 transformation

A popular skatepark in Fife has reopened following a £300,000 transformation.

Located in Dunfermline Public Park, the revamped site is said to provide a “vibrant and modern space for skaters”.

The first phase of the project, constructed by Bendcrete Skateparks, has revitalised the original layout, introducing new features designed with input from local skaters.

Dunfermline Regeneration Trust played a leading role in the design and consultation process, ensuring the result reflects the needs and aspirations of local users.

The trust’s fundraising efforts were instrumental in the transformation after securing contributions from: Avondale Environmental (£25,000), Carnegie Trust (£10,000), Fife Council (£181,765), Fife Environment Trust (£30,000), Garfield Weston (£20,000) and sportscotland (£50,000).

Councillor James Calder, the area convener for the city of Dunfermline, said: “It’s fantastic to see the new Dunfermline Skatepark ready to welcome back skaters.

“This project has been a true community effort, and I want to thank the Dunfermline Regeneration Trust for their dedication and vision.

“The new facility will encourage healthy, active lifestyles and provide a safe, exciting space for our children, young people and families.”

Chair of Dunfermline Regeneration Trust, Cllr Derek Glen said: “The new Skatepark has been years in the making, and it’s fantastic to see it brought to life. Huge thanks go to all our funders and partners for backing the vision.

“We’re incredibly proud of what’s been achieved here, with a space that has been shaped by and for our young people.

“This is exactly the kind of project Dunfermline needs: something that brings people together, encourages outdoor activity, and shows what’s possible when the city invests in its youth.”

Forbes Dunlop, sportscotland Chief Executive, said: “I’d like to congratulate everyone involved in the Dunfermline Skatepark project as it reopens.

“The physical and mental health benefits of sport are well documented, but equally important is the ability to create a space where everyone is welcome to participate at their own level.

“We are facing challenging times with significant financial pressures at all levels.

“But thanks to the continued commitment of our local partners, projects like this one in Dunfermline means more people will have an opportunity to become physically active and feel part of their local community.”

A celebratory opening event is being planned by Dunfermline Regeneration Trust for September.
