Drivers reported after wind overturns lorries on closed road

Two drivers have been reported to prosecutors after lorries overturned on a road closed to high-sided vehicles due to high winds.

One HGV ended up on its side at the Belhaven junction on the A1 near Dunbar, East Lothian, shortly after noon on Tuesday.

The second overturned 20 minutes later at the Thorntonloch Beach junction on the same road.

Police have reported a 47-year old man to the procurator fiscal over the first incident and a 36-year-old man in connection with the second.

The A1 was closed to high-sided vehicles from 5am on Tuesday between Edinburgh and the English border, and shut to all traffic between Haddington and Thistly Cross, following the Met Office issuing yellow be aware warnings for wind.

Traffic Scotland said on Tuesday that gusts of up to 68mph had been recorded on the route.
