A driver is to stand trial next year accused of killing an elderly dog walker and his pet.
Allan Hogg is said to have been involved in the fatal collision on the A768 in Loanhead, Midlothian on December 19, 2023.
Prosecutors state the 52-year-old’s car was initially struck by another vehicle.
It is claimed Hogg “changed his direction of travel” and went after the other vehicle at “excessive speed” for the conditions.
The indictment then claims Hogg failed to see George Melrose, 88, crossing the road with his dog.
It’s claimed he hit them leaving Mr Melrose so badly hurt that he passed away days later in hospital. The dog also never recovered.
The case called for a short hearing at the High Court in Glasgow on Monday, where Hogg faced a charge of causing death by dangerous driving.
Tony Lenehan KC, defending, said: “He pleads not guilty to the indictment.”
Both the advocate and prosecutor Margaret Barron agreed a trial could be fixed.
Lord Mulholland went on to schedule a date and the case is due to begin on July 1, 2027 in Edinburgh. It could last up to five days.
Hogg, also of Loanhead, remains on bail meantime.
