A investigation has been launched after a package was set alight on the doorstep of a home in the Scottish Borders.

The item was delivered to the property on Shawburn Road in Selkirk at around 1pm on Wednesday, September 18.

At around 3pm witnesses noticed the package was on fire and emergency services were called to the scene.

The property’s door was significantly damaged during the incident, which is being treated as deliberate.

Detective constable Claire White said: “Extensive enquiries have been carried out however it remains unclear why this package was deliberately set on fire and who is responsible.

“We are appealing for anyone who was in the Shawburn Road area between 1pm and 3pm on Wednesday, September 18, and may have noticed an unfamiliar person, or anything at all suspicious, to please get in touch.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 2802 of Wednesday, September 18, 2024. Alternatively you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
