A dog that has been waiting for her forever family for over six years has enjoyed a glimpse of home life through staycation with her handler.
Dogs Trust’s longest “underdog”, Twiglet, hasn’t experienced home life since 2019 and has been in the care of Dogs Trust West Calder for over 2,400 days.
The Rottweiler cross has earned the uncoveted title of Scotland’s longest “underdog” – a dog which has spent more than six months in the care of Dogs Trust.
Twiglet has spent more than six years with the charity.
But the eight-year-old recently had the chance to glimpse life in a home during a staycation with her handler, Jason Pirrie.
Twiglet quickly settled in and dealt calmly with common household triggers, including doorbells, mail coming through the letterbox and the noise of a television.
Jason said: “It was wonderful to witness how well Twiglet quickly settled during her staycation.
“She really was a dream house guest, which made me so proud.
“In the past, Twiglet has found it difficult to switch off and would play indefinitely given the chance, at home, she embraced downtime and settled naturally.
“This shows how much progress she has made and what a wonderful, faithful friend she will be when she finds her family.”
Dogs TrustSusan Tonner, manager at Dogs Trust West Calder, said: “We were delighted to hear how well she settled during her holiday with Jason.
“It didn’t come as a surprise to us, as we know how special she is, but it was great to have this recent experience, which we can share with potential adopters.
“It offers hope and exciting rehoming opportunities for Twiglet, and we would love to hear from anyone who is interested in offering our fabulous girl the home she so deserves.”
Twiglet is looking for an adult-only home where she is the only pet.
She would be happy in a secure outdoor space to potter in, especially if there’s the occasional opportunity to help with a spot of gardening.
To find out more about Twiglet, you can get in touch with the team at Dogs Trust West Calder.
The rehoming centre is open to the public five days a week, and you don’t need an appointment to visit, see dogs looking for homes, get advice or apply to adopt.
