An investigation has been launched after a dog walker was attacked by two men who tried to steal his pet.

The 40-year-old man was walking in an alleyway in the Rigghouse View area of Whitburn at around 6.40pm on Tuesday when he was attacked.

Attempts were made to steal his dog before the suspects then ran off left onto Pokemmet Road.

The victim later received treatment at his house from the Scottish Ambulance Service.

The 40-year-old’s attackers are described as being around 20 years old, with Scottish accents and wearing all dark clothing.

Detective Constable Lynn Myles, of Livingston CID, said: “This was a frightening experience for the victim so it is vital that we establish exactly what happened and trace the two men responsible.

“I would like to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time who saw or heard anything suspicious. Similarly, anyone with private CCTV, doorbell footage or dashcam is urged to review the footage and bring anything significant to our attention.

“If you think you can help, please contact us via 101 quoting incident number 2916 of October 15 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
