A dog was kicked in the head and neck before being abandoned near a train station in Edinbrugh.

Scottish SPCA officers were called out by a member of the public who reported seeing a male bull breed type dog being “dumped in a street” on Saturday.

Inspector Jennifer Surgeon said the witness saw a man “kicking the dog in the head and neck” before driving away without him.

“The male drove away in a white car however was wearing a motorbike helmet to shield his face so we have been unable to identify him so far,” Ms Surgeon said.

The dog was described as “very nervous and underweight” but didn’t appear to have any other physical injuries.

Ms Surgeon added: “The dog is microchipped but has not been registered. He is now in our care at one of our animal rescue and rehoming centres.

“If anyone recognises this dog or has any information surrounding his circumstances, they should call our confidential animal helpline on 03000 999 999.”
