A Delta Airlines flight from New York to Edinburgh was forced to U-turn over the Atlantic Ocean.
Delta flight 208 departed New York’s John F Kennedy airport at around 10.20pm local time on Sunday, bound for arrival at Edinburgh Airport around 9.45am on Monday.
Two hours after departure, the flight, which was carrying 212 passengers and 11 flight crew members, was forced to return to New York.
It is understood crews observed a potential engine issue on the Boeing 767 aircraft just before crossing the Atlantic.
Affected customers have been given accommodation and meals and the flight is expected to depart from JFK at 10pm local time on Monday.
A spokesperson for the airline said: “Delta apologizes to our customers for the delay in their travels and we appreciate their patience.
“Nothing is more important than the safety of our customers and people.”
