Dairy firm ramps up cottage cheese production as TikTok drives 'record' demand

Graham’s Family Dairy has completed a £3.5m extension to its Glenfield site in Fife and is now exporting dairy products to the Middle East and Hong Kong.

A Scottish dairy company has announced it has ramped up its cottage cheese production, amid a TikTok trend that has led to “all-time record demand” for a foodstuff once associated with the 1970s and 1980s.

What began as a TikTok craze has seen supermarkets struggle to keep shelves stocked, while producers rapidly scale up operations to keep pace.

Graham’s Family Dairy has completed a £3.5m extension to its Glenfield site in Fife, which it said will increase cottage cheese production by 50% and create 25 local jobs.

The firm has expanded both its workforce and production to meet demand, now exporting products as far afield as the Gulf States and Hong Kong.

Some 100,000 pots of cottage cheese are being produced every day at the Cowdenbeath site.

Robert Graham from Graham’s Family Dairy told STV News: “The sales of cottage cheese here are absolutely booming.

“I see some of the supermarkets are having trouble getting enough – they want more because it’s selling so well. Things have boomed a lot with all of these high-protein products that we do .

“It is going further afield than just the UK, we’re now sending to Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and last week we just started selling into Hong Kong.”

According to the supermarket Tesco, demand for cottage cheese has tripled in the last two years, driven by a wave of food influencers posting recipes featuring the ingredient on social media.

On TikTok, a number of recipes have gone viral, with one for “cottage cheese breakfast rounds” garnering 15.1 million views, and another for “cottage cheese edible cookie dough” being watched 8.7 million times.

The trend has seen demand for cottage cheese at Graham’s double in the last few years – the equivalent of an extra two million kilograms sold.

The Grocer also reported last month that monthly volumes of cottage cheese in the UK leapt from about 900,000kg at the start of 2023 to more than 1.7 million kilograms in the final month of 2025.

The resurgence of cottage cheese has become one of the world’s biggest food trends.

Once a staple of 1970s slimming diets, cottage cheese has found a new audience among fitness enthusiasts on TikTok in recent years.

More than 21 million tubs were sold across the UK last year, highlighting its renewed popularity.

Retail experts predict that high-protein dairy products like cottage cheese could be worth £400m in the UK market within the next five years.
