Cyclist threatened and robbed by masked teens who threw e-bike into river

Police are searching for four teenagers who threatened and robbed a cyclist in Dalkeith.

The victim was cycling near Musselburgh Road around 12pm on Thursday when he was approached by the gang, who threatened him before taking hold of his e-bike.

The bike was then thrown from a bridge into the water below. The suspects made off, and the bike was later recovered.

Officers are searching for the males, described as being in their teens and wearing dark clothing with their faces covered.

One was wearing a puffer jacket, and the three others had on hooded tops. They were also riding three Su-Ron-type bikes.

Detectives are keen to speak to a lorry driver who was passing at the time and sounded their horn when they saw what was happening.

Detective sergeant Elsa Brown said: “This was a completely unprovoked robbery of a man in broad daylight. It’s vital we trace the people responsible and I’m asking for the public’s help.

“Officers are carrying out enquiries locally, and I’m appealing for witnesses. We’re particularly keen to speak to a lorry driver who was passing at the time and sounded their horn when they saw what was happening. Please come forward as you may have information which could assist our enquiries.

“Anyone else who was in the area at the time or has any information is urged to contact police. Drivers with dash-cam footage of the Musselburgh Road area around lunchtime yesterday are also asked to review this for anything which may be of significance.”

Anyone with information should contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting reference 1622 of October 8. Alternatively, information can be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
