A 76-year-old cyclist is being treated for serious injuries following a crash in Penicuik.

The collision occurred on the A701 Edinburgh Road, which runs through the town between Mauricewood Junction and Eastfield Farm Road.

Emergency services were called to the scene at around 2.10pm on Thursday after a blue Volkswagen Tiguan car and a cyclist collided.

The 76-year-old male cyclist was taken to hospital where he is being treated for serious injuries.

No other injuries were reported. Police are now appealing to the public for information.

Constable Jock Kent said: “Enquiries into the crash are ongoing, and I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the crash, or saw the car or cyclist prior, to get in contact with officers.

“I’d also ask that those driving in the area at the time with dash-cam footage review this to see if it has captured anything that could assist with our investigation.”
