Council unveils plans for new theatre and town hall in FalkirkLDRS

Plans for a new theatre and town hall for Falkirk took a step forward this week as the team behind the project revealed more of their ambition for the venue.

Falkirk Library hosted a drop-in event on Tuesday, from 3-8 pm giving members of the public the chance to chat to the team of architects from Stallan Brand.

The building, which will be on the site of the former Callendar Square shopping centre, will have a main theatre with around 550 seats, a smaller studio theatre and a chamber for council meetings as well as a cafe-bar.

It will also provide a new home for Falkirk Library and for the Registrars’ service, which is currently based in the Hope Street library, as well as an advice hub.

There will be some office space for around 50 staff.

The team stressed that the design has still to be finalised and welcomed comments from those attending the event.

A spokesperson for Falkirk Council said: “The drop-in session at Falkirk Library was well attended, with local school pupils among those who came along to view the proposals and share their views.

“The session provided an opportunity for people to look at the emerging designs in more detail, speak to the project team/architects and give their feedback as the proposals continue to develop.

“Stallan Brand the project architects were pleased with the response and have taken feedback which will help inform further refinements to the designs.”

The revised proposals will be presented at another drop-in session at Falkirk Library on November 17, giving people a further opportunity to see how the designs have developed.

The current design proposals will soon be available on the council’s website/Participate Plus Platform.

These events are being held in advance of a formal planning application, which is expected to be submitted later this year.

Once the design is finalised and the application submitted, members of the public will also be able to make their views known through the formal planning process.
