Construction is now under way on a new care village in Fife.

Methil Care Village – which will be built on the site of the former Kirkland High School in Leven – will consist of a two-storey, 36-bedroom residential care home.

It will also feature a 39-place nursery, community hub with a drop-in cafe and day care centre, and 35 individual care housing bungalows.

The old school – demolished in 2016 – lies on Methilhaven Road adjacent to St Agatha’s Church with the existing Paxton Primary School and Woodlands Nursery located close by.

The village is the first in the second phase of Fife Council’s care home replacement programme.

It will take over from Methilhaven Home to provide a variety of care services to the local community on one site.

It will also provide more end of life care, as well as ensuring more early years learning and education in the Methil catchment area.

A village green will be built in the centre, with three small parks located at the corners to provide localised rest points for residents.

In a design statement for the village, Fife Council stated: “Our vision is to facilitate the provision of high quality care services within the Methil area that allows people to live, play and connect as part of one shared community.

“The care home and extra care housing will provide sustainable, comfortable and secure residential care within the community according to individuals’ specific needs.”
