A man was knocked unconscious and left with a broken eye socket after being punched “repeatedly in the face” onboard an Edinburgh train.

British Transport Police have released CCTV images of a man they wish to speak to in connection with the assault on Friday, July 5 between 4pm and 5pm on a train bound for Newcastle Central.

A man was left with the eye injury after being “punched repeatedly in the face and knocked unconscious” on the service from Edinburgh’s Waverley station.

A BTP statement read: “Anyone who recognises him is asked to contact BTP by texting 61016 or by calling 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference 467 of July 4.

“Alternatively, you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
