Fire crews were called to a large blaze which was “deliberately” started at a derelict swimming pool in Broxburn on Saturday evening.
Images and video posted on social media show flames billowing from the Xcite Swimming Pool on East Main Street at around 6.30pm on March 23.
Emergency services attended and the road was closed with a diversion put in place as the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service worked to extinguish the flames.
Police said that no one was injured as a result of the fire and there was no risk to the wider public
Around 8am on Sunday, 24 March, the road was partially re-opened.
The fire is being treated as wilful and enquiries are being carried out to establish the full circumstances.
The swimming pool had recently closed to the public and the site had been put up for sale.
Detective constable Chris Watson said: “Fortunately no one was injured but this was a reckless act by those responsible for this fire that could have harmed them or others.
“The fire is being treated as wilful and we are carrying out enquiries to establish the full circumstances.
“We are asking anyone with information that could assist with our investigation to get in touch. If you saw anything suspicious or know who may have been responsible then let us know.
“In addition, if you have private CCTV footage that could help then call us, and if you were driving in the area around the time of this fire please check your dash-cam to see if there is anything that might be useful to officers.”
Anyone who can help is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 2843 of Saturday, March 24, 2024, or make a call anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
