A ten-year-old boy is fighting for his life, and four others have been injured in a crash in the Scottish Borders.

Emergency services were called to the A701 between Broughton and Blyth Bridge around 12.15pm on Friday following a crash involving a white Seat Leon, a black Audi Q5 and a red Jaguar F-Pace.

A ten-year-old boy, who was the passenger in the Seat Leon, was taken to the hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.

Two male drivers of the Seat Leon and Jaguar were seriously injured and taken to hospital, while a teenage boy who was a passenger in the Seat Leon and a woman who was a passenger in the Audi were also taken to the hospital.

The road was closed for around seven hours to allow for investigations to be carried out.

Sergeant Grant Hastie said: “I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the crash, or saw the vehicles prior, and has yet to speak to officers to come forward with any information that could assist with our investigation.

“I’d also ask that those driving in the area at the time with dash-cam footage review this to see if it has captured anything of significance.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 1186 of October 16, 2026.
