Body recovered after man 'fell into water' near government building

It comes on the third day of the search after reportedly fell into the Victoria Quay Basin in Leith on Friday night.

The body of a man has been recovered after he reportedly fell into the water near a government building in Edinburgh.

At around 12.40pm on Sunday, February 5, police officers recovered the body of a man from the water at Victoria Quay in the Leith area.

It comes on the third day of the search after reportedly fell into the Victoria Quay Basin in Leith at around 11.25pm on Friday night.

Enquiries are ongoing to identify the man and establish the full circumstances, however police do not believe it to be suspicious.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 12.40pm on Sunday, 5 February, 2023, officers recovered the body of a man from the water at Victoria Quay in the Leith area of Edinburgh.

“Enquiries are still ongoing to identify the man and establish the full circumstances but there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances.”
