The body of a woman has been pulled from the water following a multi-agency search near a beach in Fife on Wednesday.
Emergency services were called to Leven Beach at around 7am.
Coastguard teams from Leven, Kinghorn and St Andrews, a lifeboat from Kinghorn RNLI, and a helicopter all took part in the large-scale operation.
Police have since confirmed that a woman’s body was recovered near the Promenade in Leven two hours after the alarm was raised. Her next of kin is aware.
Detectives are treating the incident as unexplained, but not suspicious. A report is due to be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 9am on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, the body of a woman was recovered from water near Promenade, Leven. Next of kin is aware.
“The death is being treated as unexplained however there do not appear to be any suspicious circumstances. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course.”
