Body of man found in river identified as missing 84-year-old with Alzheimer’s Police Scotland

A body discovered in a river has been confirmed as that of a missing 84-year-old man with Alzheimer’s.

Walter Anderson had been reported missing, having last been seen in Edinburgh on Thursday at around 11pm.

On Saturday, police were called at around 9.50pm after a man’s body was found in the river at the rear of Harlaw Road in Balerno.

Police Scotland on Sunday confirmed that the body has been formally identified as Walter Anderson.

Officers said that there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the 84-year-old’s death and that his relatives have been informed.

A report has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal, police said, as they thanked members of the public for their support during the investigation.
