A body has been found in search for a man from Galashiels who was reported missing in Prague.

Joop Sparkes, 29, reportedly went overboard during an organised party boat trip with friends on the Vltava River at around 1am on Sunday, April 28.

His girlfriend, Charley Maben, and members of his family flew out to the Czech capital in an effort to find him.

The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office confirmed on Monday a British man had died and that it is supporting his family.

The body is yet to be officially identified.

An FCDO spokesperson said: “We are supporting the family of a British man who has died in Czech Republic and are in contact with the local authorities.”

A fundraiser had been set up to find the 29-year-old and raised over £11,500 since being posted.
