Detectives have launched an attempted murder investigation after a man suffered a serious leg injury when a car was deliberately driven at him in Edinburgh.

The incident took place in Edinburgh on Sunday at around 10pm when a man deliberately drove a black BMW into a motorcyclist in a “targeted attack”.

The driver of the BMW then got out and assaulted the victim as he lay on the ground, before running off towards Pilton Place.

The victim was taken to hospital with a serious leg injury, while the BMW has been uplifted as it undergoes a forensic examination.

Officers have been checking CCTV footage for any additional information and have carried out door-to-door enquiries.

The driver of the BMW is described as white, in his 30s, around 5ft 9in tall, and of slim build. He was wearing a dark coloured hooded top and dark coloured trousers.

Detective Inspector Kevin Tait said: “While we do not know the motive for this assault, we believe it was a targeted attack.

“I am appealing to anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident to contact us. Particularly if you have any recording devices, such as dash cam or doorbell cameras. A police presence will remain in the area as we continue our enquiries.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 3489 of 23 January, 2022. If you wish to give your information anonymously, you can do so via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
