A safari park in Stirling has welcomed their second baby monkey of the year.
Blair Drummond Safari Park confirmed that a second baby Barbary macaque, named Harper, was born on June 19.
Harper is the first baby of “cherished” macaque Eadie, who keepers say is proving to be an “exceptional” first time mum.
The young monkey is said to be “thriving” under her mum’s care and is showing signs of confidence and curiosity that resembles both her mother and grandmother.
Keeper Morgan Meichan said: “Eadie has taken to motherhood with remarkable ease, and it’s wonderful to see Harper thriving under her care.
“Harper is already showing signs of confidence and curiosity. This lively behaviour is reminiscent of both her mother and her grandmother Coral, who are well-known for their spirited and engaging personalities.”
Harper is the second baby macaque to be born at the park this year after Hayley was born in May.
Barbary macaques are a unique species, known for their vestigial tails and expressive faces.
Native to the mountainous regions of North Africa and Gibraltar, Barbary macaques face numerous threats in the wild, including habitat loss and the illegal pet trade.
Sadly, there are now fewer than 8,000 Barbary macaques left in the wild, and they are classified as endangered.
