A pensioner who died after being struck by a bus in Edinburgh has been named by police.
The incident took place on Haymarket Terrace in the city centre at around 5.35pm on Saturday.
Emergency services rushed to the area following the collision, however the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.
He has now been named as Allan Moir, 79, from Edinburgh.
Mr Moir’s family paid tribute to him in a statement through police: “We would like to thank the police, paramedics and members of the public who tried to save our beloved Dad and Grandad.
“As a family, we ask for privacy at this difficult time.”
Earlier, Sergeant Barry Sommerville, from the Edinburgh Road Policing Unit, said: “At this time, our thoughts are very much with the family and friends of the man who died.
“We are carrying out enquiries to establish the full circumstances of this incident and would appeal to anyone who was in the Haymarket Terrace or Clifton Terrace area around the time of the crash to please come forward.
Officers have asked anyone who may have information regarding this incident to contact them via 101, quoting incident 2828 of February 4.
