Google MapsA fire has destroyed the roof of a block of flats in Edinburgh, with a baby among five people rescued from a home.
Emergency services were called to the blaze on Ferry Gait Place in the Muirhouse area of the city on Thursday morning.
Images from the scene showed part of the roof of the four-storey block completely destroyed by the blaze.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service sent six appliances and a high-reach vehicle to the scene.
Firefighters evacuated four adults and one child, understood to be a baby, from one property, and they were handed over to the Scottish Ambulance Service for treatment.
Two ambulances, two special operations response teams (SORT), a paramedic response car and a critical care paramedic were dispatched to the scene.
The five patients were assessed and discharged at the scene.
All other properties within the building have been evacuated, fire crews said.
Neighbouring and adjacent properties are being advised to keep windows and doors closed.
A SFRS spokesperson said: “We are currently in attendance at a building fire involving the roof structure of a four-storey block of flats on Ferry Gait Place in Edinburgh.
“Six fire appliances and a high-reach vehicle are on scene, and firefighting remains ongoing.
“Firefighters removed four adults and one child from one property, who are being monitored by the Scottish Ambulance Service.
“All other properties within the building have been evacuated, and other neighbouring and adjacent properties have been advised to keep windows and doors closed.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 10.10am on Thursday, September 10, 2026, police received a report of a building fire on Ferry Gait, Edinburgh.
“We are assisting our SFRS colleagues as they deal with the incident.”
