An artist from Edinburgh has been left with a severe spinal injury after a bicycle collision involving a pedestrian.
Aeneas Wilder, who was part of designing a Covid memorial in Scotland, was thrown from his bike on Queen’s Drive.
The 58-year-old, who was wearing a helmet, landed on his head and suffered a severe spinal injury causing paralysis.
The dad-of-two requires a hoist to move from his bed to a wheelchair, which he steers with his mouth or chin.
Two carers help Aeneas dress and bathe, and he is unable to feed himself following the accident.
A fundraiser has been launched to raise cash to pay for privately funded physiotherapy, with the hopes that he can return home to his family.
GoFundMeThe treatment could cost a total of £10,200, with hydrotherapy costing £4,160 over six months. More than £11,000 has been raised so far.
The fundraiser reads: “Your donation could profoundly improve Aeneas’ quality of life.
“He has worked hard all his life and for over 30 years he has built an exceptional international career creating large-scale sculptural works.
“Those who know him understand how devastating this injury has been – and how extraordinary his positivity and determination remain.
“We want to give him every chance at the treatment that could transform his and his family’s future.”
