A hunt is under way after a car was deliberately driven at motorcycle officers in an attempted murder in Edinburgh.

Police had flagged down the black Audi A1 on Ravenswood Avenue in connection with a suspected road traffic offence at around 4.50pm on Monday, January 9.

When officers tried to engage with the man driving the car, it sped away from the scene towards Walter Scott Avenue forcing one constable to jump out of the way.

Two days later, on Wednesday, January 11, the same Audi was seen by motorcycle officers in the Lindsay Road area of the city at around 4.15pm.

After they signalled it to stop in the Bathfield area, the driver headed directly for the officers, colliding and injuring one, before heading in the Granton direction.

Detectives are treating the incident as the attempted murder of the injured police motorcyclist.

The driver is described as being a white man, aged between 18 and 22 years old, of slim build, with short brown curly hair. The Audi registration is K3 OXK.

At the time of the first incident, there was a passenger described as a white man of a similar age in the car.

Detective inspector Gordon Couper, from Corstorphine Criminal Investigation Department (CID), said: “Violence against our people is not tolerated and we can be incredibly thankful that none of the officers involved in these two incidents were seriously injured as a result of this individual’s unacceptable and dangerous actions.

“We are appealing for anyone with information to come forward. If you witnessed these incidents, were driving in the areas at the times in question, or believe you’ve seen the vehicle involved, please come forward and contact police on 101, quoting incident 1853 of January 17, 2023.”
