A 38-year-old has been arrested following the death of a man after a “random attack” at a bus stop in Edinburgh.

Nashir Ahmed, 65, and his friend, 48, were approached by a man while waiting at a bus stop on Ferry Road near to its junction with Great Junction Street, at around 8.30pm on Sunday, March 10.

The pair were then alleged to have been subjected to an “unprovoked” assaulted.

Emergency services were called to the scene and both men were taken to the Royal Infirmary in Edinburgh for treatment.

The 48-year-old man was discharged after receiving treatment for serious leg and facial injuries.

Mr Ahmed died in hospital on Friday, March 15.

Police confirmed that a 38-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident.

He is due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Friday.

A report has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.
