Police in Edinburgh are asking for the public’s assistance in tracing a man who called them with concerns for his welfare before hanging up.

At 5.05pm on Thursday, a call was made to the police from Nicolson Square.

The caller hung up and is believed to have left the area on foot a short time after, in the direction of South Bridge.

Officers attended the area and searches were carried out, including a CCTV review.

The man is described as white, of medium build, and aged between 30 and 40 years old.

He had short brown hair and short brown facial hair. He was wearing a navy sweatshirt, dark green or grey trousers and grey trainers with white laces and a white stripe motif on the side.

He was carrying a rucksack on his back and a bottle of water in his hand.

A statement read: “If anyone knows who this was or has information that can help identify and trace him, please contact police as soon as possible.

“Information should be passed via 101 and quote incident number 2472 of Thursday, June 18, 2026.”
