A serious crash has closed the A8 between Newbridge roundabout and Edinburgh Airport, with queues of traffic reported in the area.

According to Traffic Scotland, the A8 is closed in both directions, meaning holidaymakers will have to divert via the M8 and around via Gogar to access the airport.

A fire spokesperson confirmed three appliances had been deployed to the scene following reports of a crash just before 9.30am on Monday.

They also confirmed the collision occurred close to the BP garage.

A police helicopter has also been spotted at the scene.

Drivers are being warned to avoid the area, with Edinburgh Airport directing travellers to keep following Traffic Scotland’s updates.

A police spokesperson said: “The A8 is closed at Newbridge following a report of a serious crash around 9.25am on Monday, September 7.

“Emergency services are in attendance and diversions are being put in place.

“Motorists are advised to use another route.”
