27ft 'Knife Angel' set to arrive in Edinburgh as part of national anti-violence programme

A powerful and thought-provoking sculpture made from more than 100,000 blades seized by police is making its journey to Edinburgh.

The striking statue is to raise awareness about violence and aggression and a poignant reminder of the devastating impact knife crime can have on families’ lives.

The Knife Angel was sculpted by Alfie Bradley and the British Ironworks Centre and took two years to construct. It stands at 27 foot tall and weighs 3.5 tonnes.

Families of victims were invited to engrave some of the blades with messages of hope, love and disbelief which can be seen on the Angel’s wings.

The Knife Angel will take centre stage at the Kirkgate at the bottom of Leith Walk in Edinburgh from September 1st to 27th.

Edinburgh Council, Police Scotland, Places for People Scotland and other partners will be working with schools, businesses and communities to raise awareness of the dangers of carrying knives and the impact of violence.
