Two men have appeared in court charged with attempted murder following an alleged gang attack at a house.

Stuart Robertson, 27, and John William Cowan, 18, appeared at Livingston Sheriff Court on Monday.

Both men were charged with assault to severe injury, permanent disfigurement, danger of life and attempted murder as well as a second charge of assault to severe injury.

Robertson, of no fixed abode, and Cowan, from Bathgate, West Lothian, made no plea or declaration and were committed for further examination. Both men were remanded in custody.

The incident happened at a property on West Main Street in Armadale, West Lothian, at around 8.40pm on February 2.

The two male victims were taken to hospital but have since been discharged.

Detective inspector Keith MacKay, of Livingston CID, said: “Thanks to the assistance of the public, local officers swiftly arrested two men in connection with an incident on West Main Street on February 2.

"Our inquiries into this matter are ongoing as we look to trace all those involved. I would like to take this opportunity to ask anyone who has information to contact police immediately on 101 or the charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
