Thieves smashed through part of a wall to break into a bowling club and steal a four-figure sum of cash in the early hours of Monday.

Police said the thieves gained access to Whitburn Bowling Club in West Lothian after causing "extensive damage" to a brick wall. They broke into a safe and stole the cash.

Detective constable Craig Waddell, of Livingston CID, said: "This was a targeted attack which has caused a significant financial loss for a local business.

"It's believed that the suspects may have used a dark-coloured saloon-type vehicle. We're appealing to anyone who may have seen a car matching this description, or any suspicious behaviour in the area in the early hours of Monday morning, to come forward."
