Five men have been taken to hospital after a crash in Midlothian.

Four cars were involved in the collision east of Penicuik on Monday morning.

The men's injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

A police spokesman said: "Police were alerted to the B7026, between Howgate and Auchendinny, shortly after 7.10am. Five men were taken by ambulance to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment.

"The thoroughfare was closed while the road was cleared of debris and was reopened to traffic at around 2.45pm.

"Our inquiries into this matter are ongoing and anyone who witnessed the incident or the vehicles prior to the collision is asked to contact police on 101."
