A woman accused of murdering her 82-year-old neighbour is to stand trial over the death and now faces charges of theft and attempting to pervert the course of justice.

Mary Logie was found beaten to death with a rolling pin in her Fife home on January 5.

Sandra Weir, 40, of Green Gates, Leven, appeared on petition at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court on Thursday.

She made no plea or declaration to the five charges against her during a brief private hearing.

Weir initially appeared in court last week facing a single charge of murder.

Now prosecutors have added a further four charges.

She is now accused of theft, theft by opening a lockfast place, attempting to pervert the course of justice and attempting to defeat the ends of justice.

Solicitor David Fitzpatrick made no motion for bail on her behalf.

Weir was fully committed for trial and remanded in custody ahead of further dates being set.

Mrs Logie's body was discovered in her home in Leven at around 8pm on January 5.

She had last been seen that morning when she said she was planning to visit shops and a friend in hospital.

Her body was discovered after concerns were raised when she failed to turn up at the hospital and answer her phone.

Mary had lived in her flat in Green Gates for 45 years.
