A young man was taken to hospital after he was struck by a van in an early morning smash.

The 20-year-old pedestrian was struck by a Transit van as he crossed a main road in Edinburgh on Thursday morning.

Police and emergency services were called to the city's Queensferry Road at its junction with Clermiston Road and it was closed for almost three hours.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "Police in Edinburgh were in attendance after a serious road collision on Queensferry Road around 7am this morning.

"A 20-year-old pedestrian was involved in a collision with a transit van and was conveyed to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary where he is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

"There were road closures in place on Queensferry Road at the junction with Clermiston Road but the road was reopened at 9.50 am.

"Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to contact Police on 101."
