Commuters are facing major traffic delays between Glasgow and Edinburgh after car blaze on the M8.

Emergency services attended the scene near Livingston after the vehicle caught fire on the hard shoulder at around 3.30pm on Thursday.

Lane one was closed off leaving the carriageway blocked and queues of traffic tailing back to Junction 9 at Claylands.

The road was cleared at around 4.30pm but drivers should still expect delays with traffic remaining at a standstill.

All roads are now running and the fire has been extinguished.

STV’s Paul Hughes was caught up in the delays and posted a pic of a huge queue of traffic on Twitter.

He said: “M8 westbound at a total standstill.

“Drivers getting out of cars in the heat after car fire near Livingston. Worth avoiding.”
