Tinder has unveiled a range of new gender options to make the app more inclusive to transgender users and other people who do not fit into traditional identities.

The dating app formerly allowed users to pick one of just two options - man or woman.

That has now been expanded to include a wide range of identities including transgender, trans woman, trans male, as well as others such as agender, meaning that the person does not see themselves as any gender.

It comes after transgender users complained they were unable to reflect their identities in the app, and were often being repeatedly blocked as a result of anti-trans trolls maliciously reporting their profiles.

Tinder said in a statement they were determined to make the app open to all and were making changes to ensure that minority communities were welcome.

The change was welcomed by many users on Twitter, who said it was a step in the right direction.
