Over 100 schools across the Highlands and North East of Scotland faced closure or delayed opening times due to adverse weather conditions.
The Met Office issued a yellow warning for Wednesday after multiple alerts for large parts of Scotland, where snow and ice affected several areas.
Train travel was disrupted, a bus overturned in Aberdeenshire, and a man died in a crash involving four vehicles on the A9 as wintry weather hit the country.
Aberdeenshire Council closed more than 50 schools in the North East either fully or partially on Wednesday, while Moray Council closed nine schools and nurseries due to continued snow overnight and “very uncertain road conditions.”
In the Highlands, 52 schools and nurseries were shut by the local authority, impacting 2,540 children.
A current warning for snow and ice remains in place across Aberdeenshire, Moray, the Highlands and Islands, Argyll and Bute and North Ayrshire until midday on Thursday.
The Met Office has issued another yellow alert for Saturday and Sunday across 27 council areas in Scotland.
Forecasters say heavy snow will be followed by a “rapid thaw and subsequent rain” on Saturday night, which could cause travel disruption.
There is a small chance of fast-flowing or deep floodwater. Meanwhile, roads and travel routes may be cancelled or delayed.
The warning begins on Saturday at 4am and runs until Sunday at around 9am.
