A woman has been found dead in a river in a town in Ayrshire.
Police were called at around 11.25am on Wednesday to reports of a person in the River Irvine in the East Ayrshire town of Newmilns, east of Kilmarnock.
Emergency services attended and a woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Detectives said the woman is yet to be formally identified and her death is being treated as unexplained.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 11.25am on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, police were called to a report of a person in the river in Newmilns, East Ayrshire.
“Emergency services attended and a woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Formal identification is yet to take place and the death is being treated as unexplained at this time.
“Enquiries are continuing.”
