Motorist dies after two vehicles crash head-on in Ayrshire town

A motorist has been killed in a collision with another car in Ayrshire.

Andrew John Martin, from Dunure, was driving a Ford Fiesta in the Doonfoot area of Ayr when he was involved in a smash with a Vauxhall Corsa.

Strathclyde Police said the 34-year-old died at the scene of the crash at around 6.30pm on Thursday.

Both vehicles collided head-on on the A719, police said. Emergency services attended before the Fiesta driver was pronounced dead.

The 17-year-old driver of the Corsa and a man, aged 22, who was his passenger were taken by ambulance to Ayr Hospital where they were detained for observation.

PC Paul McRoberts of the divisional road policing unit at Irvine is appealing for any witnesses to the crash.
