It really was an action-packed year for Glasgow, full of celebration, sporting achievement, sporting losses, local activism and even the appearance of aliens.

Buchanan Street was brought to a standstill with a bomb scare, Otago residents fought a long battle to Save the Lane and Alasdair Gray unveiled his Folk of All Kinds mural in Hillhead underground.

The Olympic heroes returned and paraded the streets in jubilation, the pipers descended for Piping Live! and extra terrestrials took over the Arches vaults as Alien Wars returned.

It was also a time for reflection. Memorials to the tragedy of the Kilbirnie Street fire and the anniversary of the Glasgow airport terror attacks allowed the city to lament what they'd lost, while celebrating the bravery of their fellow man.
