Two in court charged with assaulting man later found dead

Two men have appeared in court charged with assaulting another man who was later found dead.

The body of Rafal Sojka, 38, from Airdrie, North Lanarkshire, was discovered at a flat in the town's South Bridge Street at about 10.50am on Sunday.

Grzegorz Baczmanski, 31, and Mariusz Slwomir Trzcinski, 39, both from Bellshill, appeared at Airdrie Sheriff Court on Tuesday.

They each faced one charge of assault to severe injury and four charges of assault to injury.

Both men were remanded in custody after making no plea or declaration at the hearing. The case was committed for further examination.
