Thieves stole £3000 during a break-in at a pub, including cash from a charity tin and a haul of alcohol.

The Wee Mill Public House in Rutherglen, South Lanarkshire, was raided between 12.30am and 10.30am on Tuesday and was discovered by the landlady when she arrived to open up the premises.

It is understood the culprits gained access to the building through the roof. Around £3000 was stolen along with a quantity of alcohol. Part of the cash taken was in a Yorkhill Children’s Charity box in the bar area.

Constable Kevin O’Neill said: "Not only has someone stolen a significant amount of money from a business and damaged the roof of its premises, they have also taken funds raised for a children’s charity.

"This type of behaviour is absolutely deplorable and I would ask anyone who has information about who is responsible for this crime to pass the details on to the police.

"Children’s charities rely on donations from members of the public to help vulnerable and sick children so if you know who has stolen from them then you must come forward.

"I would also appeal to anyone who saw anything suspicious in the surrounding area around the time of the incident to contact officers on 101."
