Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths has said he will abandon Twitter after trolls directed abuse at his children.

Griffiths was targeted online after Celtic's Scottish Cup victory against East Kilbride on Sunday.

One account, under the name FaZe Jmbno, sent Tweets to the Scotland forward wishing death on his four children.

It prompted Griffiths to speak to police who are now investigating the matter. He then Tweeted on Monday night that he would be "coming off this".

After posting a response to the abuse online, Griffiths told STV News that he had been sent similar threats shortly after he had signed with Celtic.

He said: "I'm having second thoughts [about Twitter]. I can't keep seeing stuff like that on my phone.

"It happened with a Celtic fan as well not long after I signed. It said they were going to track my family down, I don't know what happened then and I don't really want to know. I think if it happens again I'll definitely be coming off Twitter.

"I'm not looking for an apology, they shouldn't be saying stuff like that in the first place. It's a matter for the police to deal with now and I'll just try to concentrate on the football.

"But for all my fans over Scotland who gave me the support after I put the Tweet out, it's a testament to football, and not just because of who I play for."
