Partick Thistle mascot Kingsley has been among famous faces selling the Big Issue on the streets of Glasgow.

He was joined by Belle and Sebastian singer Stuart Murdoch as part of the magazine's Vendor Week campaign, which aims to raise awareness of homelessness issues and promote the work of the magazine.

Magnus Llewellin, editor-in-chief at the Herald and Times newspaper group also sold the magazine in Glasgow. On Thursday, wrestler Grado will sell copies in Sauchiehall Street.

In Edinburgh, Law Society Chief Executive Lorna Jack will be selling the Big Issue on Princes Street on Thursday.

Big Issue editor Paul McNamee said: "It's always exhilarating and humbling when people generously give up their time for this event.

"It's a really important thing to do as it raises awareness of what the Big Issue vendors go through every day. I thank everybody who has signed up to do it, across Britain. There will be competition to see who can sell the most at various locations. Let battle commence!"

The event was organised by the International Network of Street Papers (INSP). INSP chief executive Maree Aldam said: "Vendor Week has continued to grow in its fourth year as an international event, celebrating the many thousands of hard-working vendors who sell magazines like The Big Issue in 35 countries worldwide.

"Each year, business leaders, artists, politicians and celebrities take to streets around the world as ‘guest vendors’ to help us fundraise and raise awareness of poverty and homelessness. We are so grateful to this year’s cohort of guest vendors for their time and support.

"This year’s event is particularly special for me, as for the first time, I’ll also take to the streets of Glasgow to sell The Big Issue."
